New Zealand - Earthquake
Christchurch has been hit by another severe earthquake with the epicentre 12.5 kms from the TNT depot. Whilst our depot appears not have sustained any structural damage it will need to be checked by an engineer. All depot and office staff have been accounted for and we are trying to get in touch with our drivers but the communications infrastructure as been affected. The damage around the city appears far more severe than in the quake of September 2010. Roads have been damaged, buildings in the central city have collapsed, the airport is closed, there are power outages and the water supply has been affected.
There will be no further deliveries in Christchurch on Tue 22 or Wed 23 Feb after which the situation will be re-assessed. Traffic has come to a stand still but we will attempt to get all freight back to the depot and scanned. The depot will be closed and secured until a structural engineer has assessed the building as suitable for operation.
As Christchurch is the gateway for the South Island there will be a likely service impact to the rest of the South Island. We are currently working on alternative linehaul options.
With Warm Regards,
